** 7/2/20: KBK is now officially closed. I still happily own rats as pets and work with fellow breeders but do not plan to re-open as a breeder/seller again. **
In order to be eligible for purchasing animals from me, you must fill out the appropriate application. At the moment, there are adoption applications for rats, Syrian hamsters, and degus. All other species will require an application in the future. As of 2/14/18, you must complete an adoption application and be approved to purchase rats, Syrian hamsters, or degus.
I am located in Gonzales, Louisiana (70737). You can pick up directly from my house if you are able to, or I can meet you at a nearby location that is up to 30 minutes away. I can drive further for an additional delivery fee, but nothing unreasonably far.
I currently will not ship through airlines, but I have used uShip and would consider doing so again at the adopter's expense.
I do not allow visits/tours of my rodentry facilities in order to maintain biosecurity. However, I can send pictures or video chat with you if you must see my facilities.
Cash is always preferred, but I will also accept checks made out to Katie Costanza and PayPal payments to krittersbykatie@gmail.com. I can accept debit/credit cards with a small additional fee, or Zelle QuickPay with no extra fee. I will also take Venmo and a few other payment methods.
If you discover an issue with your animal within one week of adoption (with evidence), I can provide a refund. This may include illness, parasites, preexisting injuries, or temperament conflicts. If a problem arises that is not at the fault of my rodentry―such as changing your mind―I will not refund your purchase. I can also replace the animal instead of a monetary refund.
If you need to return your animal at any time, I will always take it back. Please contact me before rehoming or surrendering your animal.
All deposits and any sales on non-animal items are nonrefundable.
Any animals that are adopted from me may notbe bred without permission. They are intended for use as pets, not breeders or feeders. If you are interested in breeding, please do some online research first, then contact me for discussion. If you're serious about it, I can definitely work with you. Rats must be adopted in same-sex pairs/groups unless you can prove ownership of other rats of the same sex and similar age.
Degus must be adopted in same-sex pairs/groups unless you can prove ownership of other degus of the same sex.
Gerbils must be adopted in same-sex pairs/groups with no exceptions.
Syrian hamsters must be adopted alone unless you can show that you have separate housing units prepared (multiple hamsters will be of the same sex).
Female mice must be adopted in pairs (unless you have other female mice) and male mice must be adopted alone.
You may only adopt animals of one sex in each species. However, if I talk with you and get to know your intentions a little better, I will allow you to get both females and males of a certain species.
If you are interested in breeding and would like me to mentor you and/or provide you with rats for breeding purposes, contact me and fill out the breeder application. Click here for the breeder application.
Domesticated rodents can carry diseases. Although wild rodents are far more likely to be diseased (and all animals may carry certain diseases), pet rodents may carry Seoul/Hantavirus, Rat Bite Fever, and more. By adopting any rodent, you are accepting the risks involved with owning that animal. I am not liable for any diseases, injuries, or other damage caused by animals adopted from my rodentry. Please practice good hygiene and understand the responsibility.
I am primarily a pet breeder, however many animals in a rodent breeding program are not suitable for pet ownership due to temperament or health reasons, so I often cull animals from my program. If you are in search of feeder rodents, you may contact me for more information.
