Degus are certainly unique and entertaining exotic rodents. They are very smart and have bold personalities. Degus are most certainly handleable pets but are not recommended for kids as they require careful handling. They can easily become flighty if they feel threatened, so I recommend scooping them up instead of chasing them down and grabbing. Once you have them in your hand, they really enjoy sitting on your shoulder, lap, or palms. Your degus will quickly learn to associate your hands with good things like tasty veggies and playtime, so you'll soon notice that they run to the cage door and chirp for your attention.
I currently breed agouti, blue, and pied (blue/agouti) degus. Their gestation is 90 days, so I only have a couple litters each year (5-7 babies per litter, usually). As a social colony animal, degus must be housed in groups, so I sell them in same-sex pairs for $50. If you already have other degus of the same sex, you can choose to get one for $30. Prices for pied and blue degus will be higher due to limited availability. In order to purchase degus, you must submit an adoption application. Once you have applied, I will contact you regarding your eligibility within a few days. After being accepted, you will be added to a waitlist and will be able to reserve your desired degus as soon as they are available. I will usually post about new litters on my Facebook page when they're born, and you can reserve degus with a deposit starting at 4 weeks old. The nonrefundable deposit is half the total paid via PayPal, then the balance is paid at pickup after they are 8 weeks old.
Please read my policies first and then contact me for more information. Degus are exotic pets that require special care and handling. Before adopting any, please do some online research and read through this care guide:
